The 83rd Golden Globe Awards concluded Sunday night (January 11) with the usual swirl of champagne, acceptance speeches, and confused applause for movies no one has admitted to seeing yet. But this year, live betting odds joined the red carpet.
For the first time in its 82-year history, the Golden Globes partnered with the prediction market Polymarket, to display real-time probabilities about who would win various awards during the broadcast and across official viewing parties. In other words, Hollywood’s biggest night got a little more… Atlantic City.

Under the deal, Polymarket became the show’s “exclusive prediction market partner,” providing what it called “market-driven insights” into everything from Best Picture to Best Podcast. Viewers were no longer just watching celebrities sweat. They were watching numbers go up and down while doing it.
Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan framed the move as a natural evolution of awards-season discourse. “The Golden Globes have long been a place where audiences debate and predict what will happen next,” he said in a press release. “By pairing cultural debate with market-based probabilities, we’re giving fans a new, more interactive way to follow the show as it unfolds.”
Social media users were less than happy about Polymarket being at the Golden Globes
On social media, however, many fans seemed less excited about “interactive” and more concerned about “is this what we’re doing now.”
One viral tweet read, “‘The Golden Globes Best Podcast odds presented by Polymarket’ is a new low for this humiliating awards show.”

Another added, “polymarket predictions during the golden globes. Everything is gambling.” A third, less subtle post said, “the golden globes incorporating polymarket betting ON SCREEN is genuinely disgusting and we need to push back on these pocket casinos at every opportunity.”

In a rare moment of bipartisan agreement, even people who normally love gambling felt this was maybe not the place. “I understand that Polymarket is the sponsor,” one user wrote, “but if you’re betting real money on The Golden Globes you have a gambling problem.”

Still, the Globes’ organizers were upbeat. Penske Media Corporation President Craig Perreault called the partnership “a groundbreaking new frontier” that “deepens the connection between fans and their favorite films, shows, and actors.” Presumably, nothing says “deep connection” like watching an actor thank their mother while their implied probability drops from 42% to 37%.
The Golden Globes, which now honor film, television, and podcasting, have long branded themselves as “Hollywood’s Party of the Year.” With Polymarket in the mix, they may now also qualify as Hollywood’s First Friendly Sportsbook.
